How to Use Country Codes

The country code in MKG is necessary for proper addressing and handling of the VAT declaration. By indicating that it concerns an EU country, the correct VAT section is selected. If it concerns a foreign company, an ICP declaration must also be filed.

In the Country Codes process table you enter the various countries with which you do business. When creating an address under a relation, the country code is a required field.

  • EU Country. Checkbox to indicate whether the country is a EU member. This check box controls VAT section 3a (‘Deliveries to countries outside the EU) or 3b (‘Deliveries to or services in countries within the EU’).
  • Country. The abbreviation used for the selected country. This must be unique, because MKG stores the country under this code in the database; this may only occur once. When creating a new country code, this is the only required field.
  • Description. The full country name can be entered in this field.
  • ICS code. If it concerns a foreign company, an ICP declaration must also be made (for intra-community deliveries). In MKG, the correct country choice is made in this field to obtain a good overview.

ICP declaration
In the module Turnover Tax in the report preview, select the report ICP Declaration (8645). The invoices that are required in the ICP declaration are shown here per period.

  • Country Code Phone. Access code for telephony (not required).
  • Language. The language code, as recorded in the Language Codes table.
  • Address Format. The way and order in which the address fields in MKG are constructed. This may vary per country. This address format is used in the various MKG layouts and associated reporting. Examples are visible in the preview of the relevant modules, for example with the sales invoice.

Don't show the country description
Make sure that the country description is not shown in the address format of your own country (no. 8). In this way, the country description is no longer required for addresses in your own country, as it is unnecessary.
