An order is automatically planned forward when no delivery date is entered. The end date is calculated based on the number of days from today during which planning is not allowed—according to the administration setting 'For planning ahead, start planning after'—plus the lead time in the schedule.

Handling is an interval in time or quantities that indicates that an employee must perform certain tasks for an unmanned operation. This includes tasks such as refilling materials or removing products.

An order is automatically planned backward when a delivery date is entered. This may result in operations being planned in the past. For example: the delivery date is tomorrow with a lead time of 40 hours.
