New translation model for reports

As a report designer or application administrator, you want to be able to translate reports into another language and automatically convert translatable texts, so that reports are available in multiple languages and match the system or customer language. We have added new translation functionality that makes it possible to translate not only standard reports but also user reports, including an overview of translatable texts and automatic conversion of words/labels.

  • With the Translations button, you can display all translatable texts within the report, including available translations. This button can be found in the Report Designer under 'Report designer' and is available to all users with report design rights.
  • With the Change Design Language button, you change the active language of the report design; the report is reopened in the chosen language. This button can be found in the Report Designer only for User Reports under 'Report designer'.
  • The Detail (form 8006) of User Reports shows a list of translatable text lines with fields: input text, NL, DE, EN, HU.

How does this translation model work?

1

Open the Standard Reports or User rReports module.

2

Select a report to be translated and open it in the designer.

3

Click on Translations to view a list of all translatable texts or click on Change Design Language to open the report in another language.

4

Choose the desired language (e.g., Dutch) and confirm with Oké. The report is automatically translated and reopened in the chosen language.

5

Add new legends or labels if necessary; upon language change, these are also translated if a translation is available.

6

Save the report to retain the language settings.

Limitations

  • Composite fields with structures such as “[text snippet: [field_field]]” are not automatically translated.
  • Detail band names are not translated.
  • Legends linked to LDM fields cannot be modified or translated.

Standard Behavior

  • Standard texts (hard coded) are automatically translated into the chosen language.
  • When copying or importing reports, the system language is used for translation.

Exceptions

  • The Change Design Language button is only available for User Reports, not for standard reports.
  • Fields in form 8006 will be expanded as more languages are supported.

Please note!
When importing XML files, ensure that the system language is correctly set to avoid incorrect translations. New custom legends are only translated if a corresponding text is present in the translation file.
